List of all Nikon F to Z-mount adapters

October 26, 2019

I'm currently in a research phase regarding getting a Nikon Z6 (or a Nikon Z50) with an F-mount to Z-mount adapter to create a very light and portable kit with my old manual lens collection which I plan to mainly use for street photography. The good thing is that since Nikon launched its latest mirrorless system a lot of 3rd party adapter manufacturers launched their solutions, too. My goal is to find cheap and good quality options of adapting F-mount lenses to the Z-mount. These usually don't come with any electronics and are called "dummy adapters". You have to change the aperture manually, and mainly use the manual mode (which is my preferred mode anyway) to operate the camera. I would like to get the FTZ adapter by Nikon, too, but I would use it mainly with my Nikkor G lenses (and some manual lenses with the CPU on board). But before I invest in such setup which ain't cheap, I will borrow the Z6 and just buy a dummy adapter to test it out. Once I do that I will share my experience on this blog.

K&F Concept adapters spotted at a local Camera store in Taipei.

As mentioned before, these adapters are divided into "autofocus adapters" and "dummy adapters". The autofocus adapters are more rare and much more expensive than the dummy adapters. That's because a lot of companies are able to reverse engineer the mount and design the adapter that doesn't require any electronics and firmware. There is almost a dozen of manufacturers who make these dummy adapters, most of them from China. A few are from Japan and one is from Germany. Naturally, the ones from Japan and Germany are much more expensive than most of the ones made in China. I will try to get my hands on some of these to test them out in the future, but meanwhile I am offering just a list with some links to Amazon and eBay, where they are most commonly found. These links are not sponsored, my blog is 100% ad-free and will remain as such. It's just that most of these brands don't have their own homepage, they only sell via these online retailers.

1. AUTOFOCUS ADAPTERS

1. Nikon FTZ Adapter
Price: 250 USD (150 USD in bundle with a Z6/Z7 camera)
Made in Japan

This is the only adapter that allows you to autofocus most Nikkor F-mount "G" lenses on the Nikon Z. You can also use it with older "D" series lenses and even older AI-S lenses. It's a great adapter, but that tripod leg is ugly and in the way of some tripods and accessories, which is a bummer.
