Influencers push back against Nikon negativity

November 26, 2020

In the video above Australian photographer Matt Irwin, who is in the business for over 30 years, made an excellent video in response to yet another negative article on Nikon by the photography news website Petapixel and to negative bias by some larger Youtube channels. In the video Matt mentions how these articles keep pushing negativity about Nikon without actually providing anything new, and without mentioning Nikon's plan to profitability in the upcoming 2 years (see my video on that in detail). Despite recent losses, Nikon is still a financially sound company, they are not leveraged, have enough cash flow and have good credit. When it comes to their immediate future, they will be fine, and 2021 is expected to be a much better year than 2020, especially if a Covid vaccine will be available and the Olympics take place. I don't think it can get much worse than 2020, also due to the fact that Nikon are working on professional bodies and lenses scheduled for release next year.

Published on the same day, photography Youtuber Lefteris from the channel Straight Out Of Camera exposed Youtuber Ken Wheeler and his disingenuous way of reviewing Nikon and Fuji. It's a brilliant take down of an obvious fraud and another commentary on the situation regarding unfair treatment of Nikon as a company:

At the same time photographer Seth Miranda chimed in as well:

  1. It's childish what so called "grown ups" publish on youtube these days. I have unsubscribed from alot of the so called photography channels. I think because they can't generate enough real business as photographers, they have to rely on the Youtube revenue. Right now, I have no camera system as I had to sell because I lost my job. But I still watch photography channels to hopefully learn a technique, or to watch someone explain their thought process as they compose an exposure or just to watch an indepth review of a product (I'm totally a camera gear nerd). Thankfully, there are still very good channels about. Great blog by the way.

  2. I'm not sure that SOOC is a good example of an "influencer" as he hardly has any eyeballs (and he's a conspiracy nut, but that's another story). But he does make a valid point about how this stuff works.

    1. Conspiracy nut? Tell me more about that “another story.”

    2. I agree, he is into conspiracies such as implying that the US election was stolen by the Democrats or who ever he believes run the country in the shadows. I don't watch his politics stuff, but his commentary on how poorly some Youtube channels review photography gear is spot on.
