GITZO Century Camera Messenger impressions

October 29, 2018

During last week's 2018 Taipei International Photography & Media Equipment Exhibition I've spotted GITZO's newest messenger bags, and checked them out. These bags are simply beautiful, and look very premium, however the price is premium as well. I'm definitely interested to get one of these two, the only issue is that they're more suitable for mirrorless cameras, not DSLRs of the size of my D810. When I get my Nikon Z6, I will probably get one of the bags along with it. I think such bag really compliments a mirrorless camera well, but I do have some concerns about whether the Nikon actually fits in. That I will need to test out.

I'm leaning towards the small one, because I already have a ThinkTANK messenger bag that is large enough to store my D810 and a lens, but for my future Nikon Z mirrorless kit the GITZO Century Compact Camera Messenger would be perfect. I'm also eyeing the Gitzo Mini Traveler Tabletop Tripod which looks amazing, but is also very expensive, retailing at $200, but unfortunately not yet available in Taiwan for purchase.

I'm not sure why, but I suddenly became a GITZO fan. Maybe because they look so good, feel premium, and have that Italian flavor to it? I don't know, but they definitely look much more fashionable than Peakdesign's "Everyday" series for example. I've spotted one guy at the exhibition with the Everyday Backpack (also not cheap at $260), and it just looked bad in my opinion.

GITZO's quality and style simply surpass Peakdesign's. Frankly speaking, I'm not into American lumberjack hipster design, when it comes to clothes and bags I prefer European brands, so naturally I am leaning towards GITZO. Prices are also not that far away. Both are premium brands, but only one is actually looking and feeling premium after I checked them out.

  1. Nice. Having those pockets makes it really convenient and it looks stylish as well. And the rain cover, having a water proof camera bag is very essential nowadays since the weather won't always be at your favor when traveling a lot.
