CASIO G-Shock MUDMASTER comparison: GWG-1000 vs. GG-1000

The MUDMASTER is a sub-series of Casio G-Shock watches that falls under the umbrella of the Master of G Collection (other current sub-series in this collection are called Gulfmaster, and Gravitymaster, as well as the older Mudman, Frogman, Gulfman, Rangeman, and Riseman). Within MUDMASTER there are again two sub-series, the more expensive and premium GWG-1000 watches that come with a triple sensor, and the cheaper and less fancy GG-1000 watches that come with a dual sensor.

Who is MUDMASTER for?

MUDMASTER is a watch, that is meant for women and men, that are having jobs, or active lives out in the nature. If you're working in gutters, coal mines, or do extreme hiking, this will be the right watch for you. The good thing is, that Casio offers two MUDMASTERS for two different budgets. The nearly twice as expensive GWG-1000 series comes with sapphire glass, and additional features, but is it worth to pay double for that? Let's explore this further in the verdict at the end, and first check a comparison table of the two types of MUDMASTER.

The winner is clearly the GWG-1000, with a more durable crystal (sapphire vs. mineral), additional sensors (barometer, altimeter), additional Casio technologies like Tough Solar and Multiband 6, as well as design enhancements such as a smart crown and a better LED illumination. The GG-1000 however is smaller, lighter and cheaper, and still retains a lot of the MUDMASTER spirit, such as a similar rugged design, and most of the features. At a half price, it might be a great value for some people. Let's list out all the models in both series before I share my own opinion, and final verdict.

My verdict of MUDMASTER

My favorite watch among all MUDMASTERS is the GWG-1000-1A, but the price point is a little bit painful. It's on my wish list, but I will wait and see, if I can get a good deal at around 450-500 USD. I'm personally always opting for the best, and the most durable option. Sapphire glass, and Tough Solar are two of my favorite features of this watch, and that edges out any GG-1000 for me. But the latter is definitely a great value, especially if you can get one at around 200 USD. It's all about what's your budget, and what's most important to you.
