The Apple event is over and the new iPhone models will be available in October 2023. This time they were named iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro. Both series have 2 editions and also two sizes: Regular and max. The biggest additions are USB-C, and the new higher resolution cameras. Here are the prices that will be available in Taiwan.

New iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini and iPhone 13 Pro Max prices in Taiwan

September 15, 2021

The Apple event is over and the new iPhone 13 models will be available in October 2021. This time they were named iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro. Both series have 2 editions. The iPhone 12 has a smaller version called Mini and is basically as small as the current iPhone SE (here is why I don't recommend that phone), while the iPhone Pro comes in standard and Max editions. I personally think it's a nice, but a very small update. If you own an iPhone 12 there's no reason to upgrade. Here are all the models and their prices as of today in New Taiwan Dollars.

New iPad Pro prices in Taiwan (2021 model)

April 25, 2021

A few days ago Apple released the newest iPad Pro 11" and 12.9" models that almost look the same as the previous generation, however the processor was upgraded to the M1 which is found in the latest MacBook Pros and iMacs, the screen has Micro LEDs and much bigger brightness (only the 12.9" version), the RAM is now 8 GB in the under 1 TB versions and 16 GB in the 1 TB and 2 TB versions, there's a Thunderbolt 3 slot, and a new white color Magic Keyboard with trackpad was also added to the previously available black one. This isn't really a huge jump in terms of design, but spec wise it's a decent bump. Let us first look at the prices in Taiwan (in NTD), then the same Taiwan prices converted to USD (at an exchange rate of 1 USD = 28.0 NTD), and then lastly the same prices as listed on Apple's US website.

New iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max prices in Taiwan

October 14, 2020

The Apple event is over and the new iPhone 12 models will be available in November 2020. This time they were named iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. Both series have 2 editions. The iPhone 12 has a smaller version called Mini and is basically as small as the current iPhone SE (here is why I don't recommend that phone), while the iPhone Pro comes in standard and Max editions. I personally think the iPhone 12 is really the best and most improved phone as compared to its predecessor, and will be the best seller. For similar reasons as the SE, I don't think the iPhone 12 Mini is a good option, and I think the iPhone Pros are a bad value, and a very small improvement compared to iPhone 11 Pro. The only thing they have speaking for themselves is the bigger screens and a slight price decrease. Here are all the models and their prices as of today in New Taiwan Dollars.

New iPad Air prices in Taiwan (2020 model)

September 16, 2020

Apple just launched the new 2020 iPad Air. It's basically like the smaller iPad Pro, but doesn't have Face ID (it has Touch ID on the off-on button) and it doesn't have ProMotion (a 120 Hz refresh rate). What is better is the A14 processor (the current iPad Pro has the older A12Z). It also has a bit of a thicker bezel. Anyway, here are the new 2020 iPad Air prices in Taiwan:

I don't recommend the new iPhone SE!

May 13, 2020

I just had the chance to get my hands on the new iPhone SE (see pricing in Taiwan), and I have to say I was quite shocked: The phone is tiny! I was really interested to buy it in order to replace my old iPhone 8 Plus, which has a cracked back and front. It served me very well for 3 years, but now I feel it's time to replace it. In these times of uncertainty, I don't want to spend too much money on a phone, so SE seemed like the perfect fit. But I buried this idea as soon as I held the phone in my hand.

New iPhone SE 2020 prices in Taiwan

April 15, 2020

Apple just launched the new 2020 iPhone SE (aka Special Edition) via a press release. It's basically the iPhone 6 with modern internals such as the latest processor and camera technology. Unfortunately there is no Plus model, so you only get the 4.7 inch base model with this and in 3 colors (black, white, red). At the same time, the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus have been discontinued. Anyway, here are the new 2020 iPhone SE prices in Taiwan:

The Apple store in Taipei 101 is empty

April 12, 2020

I don't go much out lately, I mainly stay at home in my suburban apartment, however a few days ago I had some errands to do, and so I went to Taipei 101 area. I had a little time to visit the Apple store, and to nobody's surprise, the store was almost empty. There was about 2 times more staff than visitors (picture was taken around noon).

New iPad Pro prices in Taiwan (2020 model)

March 19, 2020

Today Apple released the newest iPad Pro 11" and 12.9" models that almost look the same as the previous generation, however the processor was upgraded, the cameras are now two instead of one, and a new Magic Keyboard with trackpad was developed that has to be purchased separately (and will only be available in May 2020). This isn't really a huge jump in terms of design, the casing aside for the camera bump is basically the same. Let us first look at the prices in Taiwan (in NTD), then the same Taiwan prices converted to USD (at an exchange rate of 1 USD = 30.3 NTD), and then lastly the same prices as listed on Apple's US website.

iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro: First impressions in Taipei's Apple Store

October 15, 2019

Apple just launched new iPhones a few weeks ago (the iPhone 11 family of phones), and as a tradition, I went to check them out at the Apple store in Taipei. This time I went to the newly opened flagship store outside of Taipei 101 at Xinyi A13, and not to the older one inside Taipei 101. It clear why Apple chose to build a separate store outside the landmark on one of the most expensive pieces of land in Taipei, as it enables them huge visibility in the largest pedestrian area in the city. It's a big advertising platform for whatever the latest and greatest product they have launched, and so far whenever I visited the store was full, at least on the upper level (there's a basement level as well).

Apple Store and Taipei 101 night photo

October 11, 2019

I usually don't post my photography on this blog, but I think this image is fitting. I visited the new Taipei Xinyi A13 Apple Store with a tripod and my trusty Nikon D810 and the Voigtlander 28mm f/2.8 Color Skopar and took this shot late in the evening. It turned out quite well, but it's the only shot. Right after this one my battery died. I have to return with the Nikkor 20mm f/1.8 and a full battery and I believe I'll be able to produce even a better photo.

New iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max prices in Taiwan

September 11, 2019

The Apple event is over and new iPhones are going to be launched very soon. This time they were named iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro (as well as iPhone Pro Max). The keynote was not that good actually, and I wasn't really that impressed with the products they introduced. These iPhones are just another refresh of the original iPhone X, which was revolutionary. I don't like the look of the cameras, and it's not really something that attracts me, since I shoot with a Nikon D810. Anyway, here are the new 2019 iPhone prices in Taiwan:

The New Taipei Xinyi A13 Apple Store

June 19, 2019

The new Taipei Apple store in Xinyi opened last Saturday, and I went to have a look. This is the second Apple Store in Taipei (and Taiwan), the first one is found inside Taipei 101’s shopping mall. While that one looks like a typical mall store, the new Xinyi A13 is its own building, and the piece of land (known as Xinyi A13) is one of the most expensive bits of downtown Taipei. The other difference is the size. The new store is bigger, because it consists of 2 floors. The ground floor is an eye-catching glass building, while the lower level looks a bit like the old store: It has an area for various presentations (the Forum), and another hands-on area. I like the design, and I think this will become a very popular spot in Taipei (Taiwanese are crazy about iPhones, iPads and Macs).

iPad Pro prices in Taiwan (2018 model)

October 31, 2018

Yesterday Apple revealed the new iPad Pro 11" and 12.9", with ultra thin bezels, a new more powerful processor, Face ID, and USB-C. As a big iPad fan for years, I'm naturally very stoked to see this product come out, but when I saw the price tags, I almost got a stroke. I started to compile a price list, because it's so difficult to get a real overview on Apple's website. Let us first look at the prices in Taiwan (in NTD), then the same Taiwan prices converted to USD (at an exchange rate of 1 USD = 31 NTD), and then lastly the same prices as listed on Apple's US website.

iPhone Xs Max: First impressions in Taipei's Apple Store

September 27, 2018

Since the new iPhone Xs variants were launched two weeks ago I am contemplating whether I should get one. Currently an iPhone 8 Plus user, I don't really have the need for a new phone. It serves me well for a year now, and there's no issue what so ever with it. The performance is still speedy, and the battery life is still excellent. This was not the case with older phones (like iPhone 6s for example), but the modern iPhones seem to be really durable, and usable for 2-3 years at least. With that said, there's a want in play here. And with that, there is a "struggle" as well, because the phones are really expensive (see the prices in Taiwan here). It's not that I don't have the money, even if I'm doing very well, I still have that guilt in my head, because I used to grow up poor, and the iPhone X🅂 Max with 1250 USD price tag (for my preferred 256 GB) is a pure luxury item. I'm not sure whether I will buy it, but the way I know myself, there's a 70% chance that I will.

iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max display surface area comparison

September 22, 2018

I'm really tempted to get either the new iPhone X🅂 or the iPhone X🅂 Max, the only "issue" I have right now is deciding on the preferred screen size. I currently own and use an iPhone 8 Plus, and I had the 6s and 6 Plus before, effectively using the same display surface area for over 3 years. I'm kind of used to this size now, but I am also starting to feel that I would like to try something new, so the iPhone Xs it is... but which one? I'm still not a fan of the notch, but I guess I can get used to it. The notch however is that part that takes away a sizable screen real estate area from these phones. I've read on many forums that the 5.8 inch iPhone X wasn't really bigger than the iPhone 8 Plus. I wanted to be sure on that, so I started think how could I measure the display surface area only (in square inches or square centimeters), and after checking some forums, I finally figured it out!

New iPhone Xs and iPhone Xr prices in Taiwan

September 13, 2018

Apple just announced their latest iPhones (the Xs, Xs Max, and the Xr), and boy are the prices unbelievably high: The most top of the line model with 512 GB internal storage costs 1500 USD or 52,900 NTD! That's way over the average salary of Taiwanese people, especially those outside of Taipei. Nevertheless, I believe these phones will be a hit in Taiwan. Most people will buy them subsidized, and probably the entry level version with less storage.

Apple Air Pods review

April 5, 2018

Apple's AirPods are a very interesting product, that I was quite fascinated with, but I always felt the price was too high, but most of all, I found the design a bit of goofy and therefore embarrassing to wear, which was a bit off-putting. Then I got mine as a gift, started using them, and totally changed my opinion about that. Apple announced the AirPods in September 2016 along with the iPhone 7 and started shipping them in December 2017. It's a product that is widely praised for its seamless integration with the iPhone, but is it really that good? Let me share my experience with you.

iPhone 8 and 8 Plus carrier prices in Taiwan

September 18, 2017

The iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus will be available in Taiwan for sale on September 22nd, 2017, that is 4 days from now. The carrier prices have just been published in the Taiwanese media, and I have made a brief overview of these prices on the following 5 carriers (listed from the largest to the smallest): Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, Far East One, Taiwan Star, and Asia Pacific Telecom. I will analyze who offers the best deal in a separate post.
