The new G-SHOCK MTG-B3000D-1A9 is unbelievably gorgeous!

As an MTG-B1000-1A owner I was stunned when I saw the latest MTG-B3000D-1A9 that CASIO launched just a little while ago. The watch is simply gorgeous! I would love to exchange mine for this new kid on the block, but spending 1050 USD is not really something I'm thinking to do right now. Here some more pictures!

SWATCH Elementary (SUOB728) watch review

I always wanted a SWATCH watch and a few days ago I got my first one: The Elementary (SUOB728). I did not buy this one, it was gifted to me by my girlfriend for our anniversary. I once mentioned to her that I like the design, and she remembered it, now ain't she sweet? Most SWATCH watches are inexpensive, this one cost about 80 USD here in Taiwan (you can get it discounted at 55 USD). But you also can't expect much in terms of build quality. The main point of these SWATCH watches is the design and the life style that the watch promotes. It's a fashion watch, basically.

CASIO F-91W review

I own 6 watches, and the Casio F-91W is the cheapest watch I've ever got for myself. It cost me 450 NTD, which was about 15 USD at that time a few years ago. I can't say I really wore it a lot until recently, but I bought it for sentimental reasons. I used to have a watch like this in the 1990s, and when I saw it in one of the stores here in Taipei, I had to have it. Launched in 1989, this watch is legendary for every kid who used to grow up in the 1990s. Just having a watch in the early teens made you look cool, and electronic watches were really hip among kids, because they looked modern, they looked like they were at the forefront of innovation.

If you're a G-SHOCK fan like me, you will want to visit Taipei's biggest G-SHOCK store if you happen to come to Taiwan. The store is relatively large and located close to Zhongxiao Dunhua Metro Station in Taipei's trendy East District.

I had too much time on my hands, so I checked the Rolex men's watch prices in Taiwan. The official retail price converted to USD is an approximation. I have used 1 USD = 30.8 NTD exchange rate from April 4th 2019. CASIO G-Shock MTG-B1000-1A review

I’m owning the MT-GB100-1A for about four months now, wearing it almost every day, and I’d like to share my thoughts with you on how the watch held up and where my expectations were exceeded or where they fell short (you can check out my unboxing post with my initial impressions for comparison).

The MTG-B1000-1A is a new watch from the MT-G series (a.k.a. Metal Twisted G), which was launched in July 2018. The MT-G series is already a few years old, but this watch is different in a few ways: The B in the B1000 stands for Bluetooth connectivity (there's a smartphone app, which can be connected to the watch, and allows you to manipulate some features, or track some data). So this is the first Bluetooth series within the MT-G range. Secondly, the bands are made of resin (previous generation features brushed metal bracelets). And lastly, the dial was redesigned (the sub-dials are shifted to the left, while they were previously spread out across the whole dial). Another great thing about this series is their price: They are cheaper than the old models which could cost several 1000 USD - they retail for 800 USD (silver-dial) and 900 USD (black-dial) respectively.

CASIO G-Shock MUDMASTER GG-1000RG-1A review

The G-Shock MUDMASTER GG-1000RG-1A is a Rose Gold version of the Two Sensor Mudmaster series, or the so called better value for money Mudmaster (see my comparison with the more expensive triple-sensor GWG-1000 series). The watch retails 10,500 NTD in Taiwan (around 350 USD), but I got mine with discount, it cost me 8800 NTD, which is roughly 290 USD. I'm very satisfied with this watch. It has a lot of features, maybe more than I need. I never use the compass for example, same is true for the temperature, which I feel it's not so reliable. I basically just use world time, because it's very useful during my travels (I'm on a plane every month, and work in several time zones). The features I miss with this watch is Tough Solar and Multi Band 6, but I can still accept that Casio decided to remove this to enable a lower price point.

List of G-Shock square watches

No doubt Casio had a winner when they created the "Gravitational Shock" watch in 1983. The long name was soon changed to "G-Shock", and the rest is history. Designed by the Japanese engineer Kikuo Ibe, his goal was to "have a 10-year battery life, be water resistant to 10 bar, and survive a 10m fall onto a hard surface." That's how the DW-5000C was born in the early 1980s, and officially launched in April 1983. Today G-Shocks are a huge fashion icon, and popular all over the world. In this post I want to focus on the history of the so called "squares", which as the name implies, come with the square classic design that started it all.

CASIO G-Shock G-5600E-1DR review

The CASIO G-Shock G-5600E-1DR is my latest timepiece acquisition, and I'm pretty impressed with it. I was never into G-Shocks, but I've recently fell in love with the squares, and decided to get my first one. I was heavily researching G-Shock squares before making my buying decision, and I chose this one, because it's the only Tough Solar model without Multi Band 6, which I felt was nothing that I really need and pay more for it. However I wanted the solar charging, so this was the best choice for me. I bought it via PC Home, it cost me 3060 NTD (around 99 USD). It's not the cheapest square, but also not the most expensive (they can go up to 300 USD), for me it was a nice sweet spot. Check out my pictures and read about my impressions and experience below:
