SWATCH Elementary (SUOB728) watch review

April 3, 2020

I always wanted a SWATCH watch and a few days ago I got my first one: The Elementary (SUOB728). I did not buy this one, it was gifted to me by my girlfriend for our anniversary. I once mentioned to her that I like the design, and she remembered it, now ain't she sweet? Most SWATCH watches are inexpensive, this one cost about 80 USD here in Taiwan (you can get it discounted at 55 USD). But you also can't expect much in terms of build quality. The main point of these SWATCH watches is the design and the life style that the watch promotes. It's a fashion watch, basically.

Basic specs

This is a simple watch that shows time on a very legible dial, and also has 3 more complications: Seconds, Day and Date. Here are its basic specs.

Movement: Quartz
Case width: 41.00 mm
Case thickness: 9.85 mm
Weight: 28 g
Strap Material: Rubber
Clasp Material: Plastic
Water resistance: 3 Bar

The main feature of this watch is the dial: The colorful hands and the big bold hour markers with Arab numbers make it so easy to see what time it is. This was the main reason why I liked this watch in the first place. Another strength is its weight: You barely feel it on your wrist. With 28 g it's merely 7 g heavier than my Casio F-91W.

The watch is very small and light.

It's also very thin.

It's very legible from bad angles.

The back side has an easy way to change the battery.

The rubber strap is pretty long.

This is how the watch looks like on my wrist.

The bad

Maybe one of the downsides of this watch is the squeaky case. When I type on my keyboard and move my hand, the plastic case keeps making a squeaking noise. Some people might get irritated by that, for me it's still acceptable. The second thing is the noise made by the second hand. Whenever it moves, you can hear it, especially at home. So the combination of the plastic squeaking and the noisy second hand might bother some people. I am fine with it, but this is a reminder that it's a cheaply made fashion watch after all. Whether it's worth the 80 bucks is up to you.
