New iPad Pro prices in Taiwan (2020 model)

March 19, 2020

Today Apple released the newest iPad Pro 11" and 12.9" models that almost look the same as the previous generation, however the processor was upgraded, the cameras are now two instead of one, and a new Magic Keyboard with trackpad was developed that has to be purchased separately (and will only be available in May 2020). This isn't really a huge jump in terms of design, the casing aside for the camera bump is basically the same. Let us first look at the prices in Taiwan (in NTD), then the same Taiwan prices converted to USD (at an exchange rate of 1 USD = 30.3 NTD), and then lastly the same prices as listed on Apple's US website.

The most interesting thing Apple did here as compared to previous generation is they kept the base models prices the same, but they changed the storage from 64GB to 128GB. That's a good move. Further they dropped the price of the 256GB and 512GB versions by 50 USD, and the 1TB version got a price drop of 250 USD! So basically price drops on all models in different ways, which is great. Obviously the 1TB versions weren't selling, they were way overpriced, so Apple had to do something. Now the question is how will the market react to this product that was launched right in the middle of the global coronavirus crisis. I think sales numbers will drop significantly, but that would've happened regardless if Apple refreshed this series. I guess they had to launch it, as it was probably waiting on the factories' conveyer belts to be assembled. As a huge iPad Pro fan, I would love to get it, but the times call for restraint and modesty, so I will continue to use my 3 years old 10.5" iPad Pro.
